Airdale Brewing Company is a craft brewery located in San Diego, California[1]. Their beers are characterized as bold yet balanced examples of traditionally classic styles, although their seasonal and specialty releases tend to show artistic license and innovation. Airdale Brewing opened their doors in 2008 and currently only offer their products to the San Diego County market. Airdale beers are available in kegs only.
Airdale Brewing currently offers 5 unique beers: Airdale Altitude, Airdale Horizon, Airdale Afterburner, Airdale Homecoming, and Airdale Dark & Stormy[2]. Altitude and Horizon are considered their "flagship" beers. Afterburner is the newest year round release to come out. Bombshell is a summer seasonal release, Homecoming is a fall seasonal release, and Dark & Stormy is a strong ale specialty beer which usually is available during the winter months. New releases are routinely being released in varying styles. No specific style is defined as a specialty of Airdale, rather they produce beers that cover a wide range of styles and characteristics.
Airdale Altitude is brewed within the style parameters commonly known as American Strong Pale ale, has a lightly sweet, malty flavor, balanced by the aroma of hops. This beer also has an aggressive fruity-hop flavor on the finish as it is strengthened through dry hopping, which is so characteristic of amber ales. It is light to medium in body and amber-red in color. Pale Ales are one of the most popular of traditional British beer styles being produced by craft breweries in the United States. Airdale Altitude is a beer that is both satisfying to the experienced ale drinker and yet not too overpowering as to frighten off the newcomer.[3]

Airdale Horizon is a style of wheat beer (weissbier). It is made with a typical ratio of 40:60, or even higher, wheat to barley malt. This beer is light, bright, and zippy on the palate with an often dry and tart edge, coupled with some hop spiciness. Little hop bitterness permeates the beer and it possesses a moderate level of alcohol. The “Hefe” prefix means “with yeast”, hence the beers unfiltered and cloudy appearance. Often served with a lemon wedge (popularized by Americans), to either cut the wheat or yeast edge, which many find to be a flavorful snap.[4]
4.9% ABV / 12 IBU's / 5 SRM
Airdale Afterburner is a beautifully balanced amber ale. Combining a rich, malty aroma and flavor with the subtle, lingering character of perle and amarillo hops, Afterburner delivers a winning combination of sweet and bitter. This beer is a rich ruby red color with a creamy head. Notes of caramel and toffee invade the palate while finishing with a smooth bitterness. At 5.3% alcohol, Afterburner is a supremely drinkable beer while maintaining a full-flavored approach. Amber Ales tend to be more approachable than their pale ale cousins.[5]
5.3% ABV / 34 IBU's / 18 SRM
Airdale Bombshell is a crisp and refreshing Belgian golden ale, made from all Belgian ingredients. Pilsner malts, candi sugars, and an aromatic golden ale yeast were combined to give us a pale blonde ale with aromas of cloves and bubblegum, and a distinctive Belgian "funk"! At 8.3% alcohol, this beer packs a punch while remaining light and refreshing; perfect for the summer months. Available during the months of July thru September, Bombshell is great paired with many mainstay summer foods![6]
Airdale Homecoming is a delight to drink on a cold winter evening. A classic brown porter spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla, Homecoming starts with hints of espresso on the nose. A light malt sweetness with faint traces of chocolate and vanilla invade the palate from the beginning. Caramel notes come through as well. The Holiday spices are faint, allowing the porter's flavor to dominate while the spices serve to enhance the chocolate notes. A light-bodied beer, the finish is smooth and light with a subtle hoppy bitterness. A wonderful warming effect makes this beer a perfect holiday treat![7]
8.3% ABV / 28 IBU's / 5 SRM
Airdale Dark & Stormy is a specialty beer made in the Imperial Stout style. Dark & Stormy packs a 9.5% ABV punch, but don't let that scare you! This beer starts with a pleasant aroma of coffee and cocoa. A gourmet flavor of bittersweet chocolate surrounds the tastebuds and melds with the full-bodied beer to make this sensation last and last. Not too dry, not too sweet, Dark & Stormy blends the two into a wonderful semi-sweet taste. The high alcohol imparts a comfortable warming feel, but is perfectly balanced with the flavors and aromas. A nice coffee bitterness lingers on the finish, enticing you to take another sip.[8]
